Through a series of interactive workshops, practical tasks and case studies students will learn about some of the most valued businesses in the world and understand what makes them work. Students in this class will be offered the unparalleled opportunity to take part in a world-renowned business programme, used to train leading business professionals, and learn skills that create real impact.
Teachers will show students how they can help solve world issues and create value through business. Students will learn about values-led business and what that really means. They will learn about, and how to use, the business model canvas as well as studying a variety of local and global business types to understand what makes them successful.
The programme covers a wide range of subjects, including marketing, business planning, finance, purpose, values, people and roles, product placement, pricing, selling and how to pitch. They will be able to use these new skills while developing their own business idea, which they will present during the final week of the program, either in class or as part of the Dragons’ Den evening program where students get to pitch their business idea to the ISSOS ‘Dragons’.
The 3-week creative writing summer school programme helps students build their writing skills through a range of projects including short stories, essays and poetry, to help them discover their own creative voice.

During this 3-week course, students will write extensively and discover different styles of writing through a range of projects including essays, short stories and poetry. Using the world around them and their own experiences as inspiration, students will learn new skills to help them discover their voice.
As well as studying the work of renowned writers students will also benefit from extensive writing practice and expert help from our highly skilled teachers. They may also get the chance to see their work in print if it is chosen as a feature for the summer school magazine, The ISSOS Times.
Students will learn to understand and harness the power of using creative language to produce everything from original poems, and scenes from a play or movie, to song lyrics and short stories.
Debate is a highly useful academic skill that gives students an advantage both in school and when applying to top universities. The ISSOS Debate programme will cover everything from the most basic of introductions and public speaking techniques, to advanced argument structures and theories.
Students taking this academic at our Cambridge campus should be between 15 - 18 years old at the start of the programme.

The experienced coaches will cover all aspects of British Parliamentary Debate including speech delivery, organisation of thoughts, evidence analysis, argument invention and debating theory. Students will discover how to create persuasive arguments, how to critically analyze complicated world issues, and will learn that there are multiple perspectives on all of them.
At the end of the 3-week programme, the class will culminate with the Final Night Debate where teams of the strongest Debaters will be chosen to take part in front of the entire summer school.

Film at ISSOS gives students a practical introduction to all aspects of film through a combination of interactive lessons, technical training and hands-on experience behind the camera. They will then use this knowledge and work in small groups to create their own short films to show the entire Summer School at the end of the 3-week program.

Students of all abilities will benefit from expert tuition on all aspects of the filmmaking process from location scouting, scriptwriting, set design, directing, production management, right through to cinematography and editing.
They will receive instruction in the use of professional cameras and editing software, and working in small teams they will learn to work in a production crew and take turns to direct, produce and create their own unique films.
This elective has been designed to give students a practical introduction to film at the same time as helping them to appreciate the rewards of teamwork and the satisfaction of putting their ideas into action. Students will create their own unique films, gain the confidence to express and discuss their ideas, and learn what it takes to put their ideas into action and discover the rewards of seeing their ideas come to life on the big screen.

Students in the Outdoor Leadership programme will spend their afternoons taking part in lessons that will cover a wide range of activities from sailing to raft building and team-building exercises.
Each of the lessons has been designed with a specific goal in mind, but the strong theme throughout this course will be to develop communication skills, help students learn to work as an effective part of a team and to build their self-confidence and leadership abilities.
The experience that will be gained during this summer school programme will last far beyond the three weeks at ISSOS and will give students skills that they can apply to many different areas of their life.

What students learn
Students of all levels from beginner to advanced will benefit from our summer photography programme. Students will be split into classes based on their levels of knowledge and will spend the 3 weeks under the expert tuition of our professional photography teachers.
The topics and subjects covered will be highly varied, from street and studio work to nature and portrait photography.
Beginners will learn the basics of using their camera to create and edit quality photographs, and our more advanced students can develop their skills and master advanced camera settings, lens techniques and use of advanced lighting.
All of students will work towards creating a portfolio of their own work which will be displayed at the end of the programme at ISSOS’ Creative Night.
Students taking Photography must bring their own DSLR camera with them.

The 3-week Tennis course offers students from beginner to experienced tennis players expert tuition from our LTA accredited coaches in world-class tennis facilities at all 3 ISSOS campuses.
On arrival, students will be split into groups of similar abilities so that they are learning and playing against students of the same standard as themselves.
Beginners benefit from individual attention and constant encouragement and can learn the rules of the game while practising basic tennis skills.
Intermediate and advanced players can develop their Tennis knowledge while refining their skills and building up more advanced tactics including spin techniques, positional play, footwork and tactical awareness.
All participants will play full-length games and take part in the ISSOS Tennis Tournament at the end of the 3 weeks.
Students taking this elective must bring a tennis racket with them.

Theatre programme
Study Skills at ISSOS has been designed around the previous Pre-IB academic, which has been adapted to meet the needs of students in a broader range of school curriculums, and is now an advanced Study Skills course. Study Skills includes all of the aspects of our Pre IB programme that made it so beneficial, but it will focus on broader, advanced-level study skills that will be vital for students entering their final years of high school and going on to University. It teaches advanced-level skills that will give students the vital tools they need for success in high school and in transitioning to university.

The bespoke programme has been developed to meet the needs of students going into their final, challenging years of high school and to equip them with the vital skills they will need going on to university.
Students will learn a variety of tactics that will help them use their time more effectively, which covers everything from goal setting, critical thinking and time management, to developing study plans, research skills and essay structuring. We will also give students the tools they need to deliver effective presentations as well as develop confidence for public speaking.
They also work with students to manage exam and academic stress and teach them coping techniques for dealing with the increased workload that they may be facing at this stage of their high school career. The tutorial-style classes are interactive and students will be given time to actively practice and develop all of the skills they are taught on a daily basis.
The skills students gain from this course will not only help them prepare for their final years of high school but will be essential as they move on to university study.
